How to Set Up Trash and Recycling Services in Eugene

Welcome to Eugene! Whether you're drawn here by the green spaces, involved culture, or friendly community vibes, one thing’s for sure: you’ve landed in a place that values community, sustainability and doing things the local way.

One unique perk of living in Eugene is that you get to choose your garbage and recycling hauler. The question that comes with that is how do you best select the right fit?

Step 1: Understand Your Eugene Trash Service Options

Many cities in Oregon typically assign you a hauler. In Eugene, however, the choice gets to be in your hands. Here you have the freedom to choose a provider that fits your values and unique needs. Enter Apex were a local community-oriented hauler that values the people in Eugene and the impact our service has on our local environment and city.

Step 2: Choose a Hauler That Supports You Beyond the Basics

Trash pickup is just the beginning. Whether you're downsizing, remodeling, or tackling your garden, you need more than just a service—you need a partner. One that shows up week after week and steps up when life gets chaotic and messy.

At Apex, we go beyond the curbside. We’re here to support you during those big projects, extensive cleanups, and your long-awaited to-do lists. That’s what neighbors do. So, when you're choosing a hauler in Eugene, look for one that can meet your everyday needs—and stand by you through the unexpected, too.

FAQs

What is Oregon’s Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act?

It’s a statewide law designed to improve recycling across Oregon. For you, that means more items are accepted in your recycling bin and a simpler, clearer system for sorting materials. Learn more about the Act.

How often is garbage collected in Eugene?

You can elect to have your garbage picked up weekly or biweekly on your assigned collection day. Apex makes it easy to track your trash pickup schedule and get reminders for any upcoming changes.

Is curbside recycling included with garbage service?

Yes! In Eugene and Lane County, residential recycling service is included in the cost of your garbage pickup. With Apex, you get clear instructions on what can and can’t go in the bin, so you can recycle with confidence.

Can I put food waste in my yard debris bin?

Absolutely. In Eugene, residents are encouraged to place food scraps (like vegetable peels, coffee grounds, and leftovers) in their yard waste container along with all other compostable yard materials.

What color bins should I use for different types of waste?

Eugene uses a color-coded bin system:

  • Blue Lid = Trash

  • Green Lid = Recyclables

  • Black Lid = Recyclables Yard debris + food waste

Apex makes sure you have all the right information on what goes in each bin based off of the corresponding lid color when you start service.

If your pickup day falls on or after a major holiday, your service is typically delayed by 24 hours. Apex will always post updates to help you stay on track with your holiday garbage pickup schedule.
